FCM Travel Solutions recently held its annual global conference "FCM Focus" at the Paradisus Hotel in Playa del Carmen.

Our Global Communication Manager, Adrian Letilovic attended the conference along with 200 other delegates from FCM's global network and sent us this review – you can read all about the hotel and his thoughts on the property below.

Tell us about Pardisus Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen's Paradisus resort is immense, with more than 1000 rooms split over an adults only section – La Perla – and a family friendly section – La Esmerelda. A stunning and relaxing all-inclusive resort, the property features 14 world-class restaurants and 16 bars – you could literally spend an entire week here without needing (or wanting) to leave the hotel grounds. Gorgeous turquoise pools stretch around the buildings, offering walk in pool access from most ground floor rooms, whilst the higher rooms offer great views of the meticulous gardens and pools as well as the nearby beach.

Just a short 45 minute drive from Cancun International Airport, the hotel is day-trip distance from ancient historical ruins including Chichén Itzá, Cobá  and Tulum – this hotel has everything you could want and more at your fingertips, whether you're travelling for work or pleasure or both.

What are the rooms like?

The rooms are massive – there's no other word for it. When I first checked in my initial thought was that I'd been upgraded because after opening the room door, you're greeted by a short hallway featuring a separate toilet, then a large bathroom, followed by a sleeping area with a king size bed and finally – following a small partition, a couch and small dining table stretching out onto a balcony overlooking the beautiful pool and hotel grounds. It was literally the size of two standard hotel rooms smooshed together.

Now it's time to talk about the bed – I can be super fussy when it comes to hotel beds... it's a bit like the three bears, always too soft or too hard. This bed was just right, jetlag wasn't even an issue because it felt like sleeping on a giant bed of clouds!

Tell us about the bathroom

Can you say amazing? The separate bathroom can open up into the main bedroom by use of a sliding door/wall thingy which essentially opens up the entire living space in the room. Very cool if you want to enjoy a glass of champagne in the large bath while watching a movie on your hotel TV. The bathroom also features a separate walk in monsoon rain shower which is completely self-enclosed and features two shower heads. The amenity kits provided including shampoo, conditioner and body wash are all generous in size and not your usual hotel "fun size" that run out after a single use.

Was there a conference room and other rooms that made it suitable for a corporate getaway?

Paradisus Playa del Carmen is ideal for corporate meetings and events of any size, offering 2322 square metres of space for conventions and conferences. The conference centre features 14 meeting rooms with capacity for 1500 guests. VIP meeting rooms feature flat screens with high tech A/V equipment and support provided. We held our annual global conference here and it was absolutely spectacular and the service impeccable.

What other facilities were there?

I was not kidding before when I said that you could stay here for a week and not need to leave. The hotel has every conceivable facility or need covered; gym including classes and personal training, beauty spa, business centre, medical service, laundry service,  gift shop and pharmacy – plus the concierge service can assist to organise help for anything else you may need (although I can't imagine what that might be).

Did you enjoy the food?

Yes! So spoilt for choice! Generally when you go for a conference it's the same story every day –  conference food isn't generally known for being amazing – but when you have 14 restaurants to choose from including everything from Japanese to Argentinean, food will never be a bore and the best thing – the majority of them are covered under the all inclusive rate so there's no worry over a huge bill on check out as it's already been looked after.

The only thing to be careful about is eating too many Oreo cookies and snacks from your mini-bar which is re-stocked daily!

Who would you recommend this property for?

Having two separate areas for adults only and families, encapsulated within the entire hotel property makes Paradisus Playa del Carmen suitable for all ages. Whether you're a single with a group of friends, on a romantic trip with your significant other or with the children for a family getaway.

If you're lucky enough to visit here for work, it is definitely the excuse you've been looking for to bring your loved ones and extend for a couple of days and relax and unwind.

What's your overall rating out of 5 and any final comments

I can't give this hotel any score other than 5 out of 5 stars. I had the best time here, the hotel staff were all very friendly and attentive, the food was fantastic and plentiful with loads of variation. I was able to organise a day trip to the ancient ruins at Tulum – Paradisus Playa del Carmen really had it all – I hope to go back again sometime, until then I'll be dreaming about it!
