Emirates wi-fi price hike

Emirates plans to increase its onboard wi-fi charges from 14 June. All travellers will receive 20MB of free access, double the current allowance, after which a US$9.99 for 150MB or US$15.99 for 500MB charge will apply. Skywards members travelling in first or business will continue to receive free wi-fi for the duration of their flight.

 

Qantas boosts Kalgoorlie

Qantas is operating four additional flights to Kalgoorlie for the upcoming Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum taking place 7-9 August. The carrier will operate a direct Sydney-Kalgoorlie service as well as an additional Perth-Kalgoorlie flight the day prior to the event. Additional Kalgoorlie-Perth flights will also operate on 9-10 Aug after the event concludes.

 

Hilton’s Curio China debut

Hilton Worldwide has debuted its Curio Collection in Greater China. The Sanya Yazhou Bay Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton features 267 rooms and a range of food and beverage options including a rooftop bar as well as a jogging track, fitness centre, swimming pool and tennis court. The property also boasts a range of meeting and event spaces, catering for up to 550 guests.

 

Le Meridien Rome

Marriott International’s Le Meridien brand has re-entered Italy, with a new property in the country’s capital. The 240-room Le Meridien Visconti Rome is centrally located between the Spanish Steps and the Vatican City. As well as a bistro/bar, it also boasts a range of meeting rooms.

 

ibis Styles - Nairobi Westlands

AccorHotels has signed a management agreement for a new ibis Styles property in Nairobi. The move will see the Tune Hotel Westlands, Nairobi rebranded as the ibis Styles - Nairobi Westlands later this year. The 280-room hotel is located close to the city’s central business district and local business parks. It features a restaurant, Grab & Go coffee shop, bar and rooftop lounge.

 

Marriott Nepal debut

Marriott International has made its debut in Nepal with the opening of the Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu. Located in the commercial neighbourhood of Thamel, the property features 115 rooms, a 24-hour restaurant, a fitness centre and two meeting rooms, each large enough for 10 guests.

 

Etihad boosts JFK

Etihad Airways has upped capacity on its Abu Dhabi-New York JFK route. The carrier has switched aircraft on its second daily flight between the two cities from a B777-300ER aircraft to an A380.

 

Art Series Melbourne

A new Art Series Hotel will open in Melbourne later this year. Art Series Hotel, The Chen, inspired by Chinese Australian artist Zhong Chen, is part of the Whitehorse Towers project in Box Hill. When it opens in November, the property will feature 100 rooms, four food and beverage options, a rooftop swimming pool and gym as well as a range of meeting and event spaces.

 

Ritz-Carlton Astana

Marriott International has opened a new upmarket hotel in Kazakhstan. Located in the country’s capital, the 157-key Ritz-Carlton Astana features a choice of three dining venues, a spa, dry and steam saunas, a swimming pool and fitness centre as well as three meeting rooms, two boardrooms and a 1,000 sqm ballroom.

 

ibis Styles Hobart

Hobart will soon see the opening of its largest hotel to date. The new-build ibis Styles Hobart is set to open in July in a prime position on Macquarie Street. The 10-storey hotel features 296 rooms, a restaurant and bar, a gym, two saunas and a rooftop indoor heated lap pool as well as a meeting room. It also offers free wi-fi connectivity throughout the property and onsite car parking.

 

Sofitel Dubai Wafi

AccorHotels has plans to open its largest Sofitel property in the Middle East. The Sofitel Dubai Wafi will offer 501 rooms and suites as well as 97 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom serviced apartments for those requiring an extended stay. Set to open in early 2019, the property will feature a range of dining options, a spa, gym and outdoor swimming pool as well as 10 meeting rooms and a 1,115sqm ballroom for larger events. For business travellers, the hotel offers convenient access to the Dubai International Financial Center, Dubai Healthcare City and Dubai International Conference and Exhibition Centre.
